So Red The Rose by Arcadia free essay sample

Arcadia was one of two Duran Duran side projects that evolved in late 1985, after Duran Duran’s release of the single â€Å"A View To A Kill† (Which was the theme song for the James Bond movie of the same name.) and the temporary split up that followed when guitarist Andy Taylor and bassist John Taylor left the band to form their own rock outfit â€Å"The Power Station.† Remaining members , keyboardist Nick Rhodes, Lead singer Simon LeBon, and Drummer Roger Taylor formed Arcadia, a very short lived and little-known group that was often forgotten in eighties pop history, despite the success of their mother group Duran Duran . Arcadia released â€Å"So Red The Rose† (#23 U.S., # 30 U.K.) in December 1985, and spawned two hits , â€Å"Election Day† (#6) and â€Å" Goodbye is Forever†(#33). Though the album failed to produce another single, tracks on the album like â€Å"The Flame†, the tropical sounding â€Å"El Diablo† and the mel ancholic harmony of â€Å"Lady Ice† along with the energetic sounding â€Å"Election Day† are strong points on the album that really show the group’s experimental efforts to cast a lighthearted, mystical feel in some parts while in others a much darker mood prevailed. Taylor took a hiatus.) The album in my opinion gets a five star rating as it is very creative, and is enjoyable to listen to even after you’ve heard it for the thousandth time. So, whether you’re tired of hearing Lady Gaga or Justin Beiber all day long, or want to listen to something different than your peers, check out Arcadia’s â€Å"So Red The Rose.† I guarantee you’ll enjoy it as much as I do. Ralph S. Mouse essays

Ralph S. Mouse essays First off, I have to say that this book is very appropriate for the grade level that we chose it for. The plot is primarily about the adventures of Ralph, the mouse, and I think the way that he reacts to situations is an accurate representation of where third and fourth graders stand cognitively and emotionally. He is rather self-involved, taking things personally that arent really meant to hurt him and often reacting selfishly. At the same time, he is capable of understanding how others feel and the consequences of hurting them. It is his empathy for his relatives and for the custodian at the Inn that urges him to leave and go to the school. At the same time, he was not able to see why his buddy needed him to run the maze, so he did what he wanted instead. The only reason he even tried the maze was to gain back his motorcycle. This story reinforces how children feel at that age level; they are centered on keeping themselves happy, but they strive to understand others as well. They a re capable of making sacrifices to help others, so long as they grasp the reason behind the need. The plot itself is entertaining. A mouse, which is as intelligent as its human friends and can speak to special people, can ride a motorcycle, and which runs away to live at an elementary school. His little trials are at times humorous, but still, they help children to identify with him and to understand that his problems are as big to him as theirs are to themselves. One of the things I like the most about this book is that Ralph still has mouse characteristics and habits, even beyond his appearance. These actions and thoughts are shown entirely from first person, so that again, the children can sympathize with the main character. Unlike the mouse in Stuart Little, the only two things that Ralph does that are human is talk and ride a motorcycle. He still eats like a mouse, lives like ...

Research proposal Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 4

Research Proposal Example If the two elements did not exist, people would rethink their participation. Therefore, considering the importance of sharing private information online in maintaining a vibrant Internet, there is need to defend people’s privacy and data that is online from government intrusion; this essay will, through presenting evidence from books and other sources, proof that violation of online privacy is a danger to technology companies, the internet, and peoples civil rights. In carrying out this research, I will rely on newspaper articles, expert views from lawyers and internet experts, books, and journal. I will rely on newspaper and magazine articles because the issue of government surveillance has become a hot topic since Edward Snowden released leaks about massive spying and illegal collection of data being carried out by American government. Internet experts and founders on large Internet companies will provide interesting perspective on online privacy. Books and journals will provide intellectual and philosophical view in the discussion of privacy. All materials used will be secondary and tertiary. Massive and illegal mining of personal data is a threat to the Internet. The Internet is based on openness and trust. When people share their personal data online, they do not expect the information will end up with the government or other third parties (Mears and Cohen 16). If they expect that would be the case, they would refuse to share it. On Facebook, people share personal data with their friends. That sharing creates trust and genuine engagement. Without people sharing personal information, social networking sites would lose their ability and keep people engaged online. This would signify the decline of social media. Another threat is the fledgling crowd services offered by Amazon web services, Google app engine, box, dropbox, and others. Foreign companies would fear keeping their data with American companies if American government would access it
